Short seasons, planned a year ahead

Egyptian fruit is a short, sharp season — and the buyers who plan early get the best of it. Strawberries, grapes, pomegranates, plums and mangoes, each on its own window.

These crops need more care and more speed than citrus. Fruit is cooled within hours of harvest, because the window between the field and the vessel is short and the tolerance for a warm pallet is nil. Grapes are packed at the soft fruit packhouse; strawberries are picked to order against a confirmed booking rather than packed to stock.

Strawberries and grapes in particular sell out early. Book the window, not the week.
